Frequently Asked Questions

At West Wave Energy Assessment, we understand that you might have questions about energy assessments, NatHERS ratings, and how our services can benefit you. Here, we've compiled answers to some of the most frequently asked questions:

General enquiries:

  • An energy assessment evaluates a building's energy efficiency. It considers factors like insulation, glazing, building fabric, thermal mass, shading and heating/cooling systems to determine how much energy the building consumes.

  • Energy assessments are mandatory in Western Australia and NSW for all new builds, alterations and additions (over $50k in NSW) to receive building approval. They also help identify areas for improvement, potentially lowering your energy bills and creating a more comfortable and safer living environment.

  • NatHERS and Elemental provisions (EP) Deemed-to-Satisfy (DTS) solutions are the most common pathways to compliance. NatHERS assigns a star rating (1-10) based on a thermal model of your building. EP focuses on meeting minimum energy efficiency requirements for individual building elements. The residential scorecard is for exsisting homes.

NatHERS Assessment:

  • A NatHERS star rating indicates a building's overall energy efficiency. Higher ratings signify a more energy-efficient and cost-effective building to operate.

  • We use accredited software to create a thermal model of your building, simulating annual heating and cooling loads. This data is used to calculate the star rating.

  • Buildings with high star ratings typically enjoy lower energy bills, improved comfort levels, and potentially increased property value.
